Fall Apples vs. Insect Bites

Yellow jacket enjoying an apple.

You may notice that many times in the fall of the year the apples will appear to have "holes" or 'bites" in them.  many times this is caused by a wasp.  This is a wasp of the family Vespidae, and is one of a group commonly called yellow jackets.  To combat this pick up any apples that have fallen to the ground, make sure that they are wasp free first and discard them.
