North Dakota Home Garden Cultivar Trials
NDSU is looking for gardeners to evaluate cultivars of FALL VEGETABLES! We have seeds available of spinach and radish.
Each trial is a side-by-side comparison of two cultivars. You will receive two packets of seeds, two row labels, and a simple data sheet (see photo) for each trial. You grow the two cultivars and tell us which cultivar germinated better, produced a higher yield, and tasted better. It’s a fun and easy project!
Trials can be grown in gardens or containers. Seeds are non-GMO and are not treated with chemicals.
Seeds this fall are free. We encourage you to order online and we will ship your seeds within two business days. Another option is to download our brochure and mail your order. Seed supplies are limited and all seeds will be shipped out by late August.
Results from these trials lead to our recommendations of cultivars for gardeners in North Dakota.
Hundreds of gardeners participate in our trials every year. We welcome all gardeners including beginners.
We welcome children. The project teaches basic skills in science. Kids that grow vegetables are more likely to eat vegetables.
