Gearing Up for Kindergarten 10-Year Review
Education is a Marathon

A parent and family involvement program that supports:

The Gearing Up for Kindergarten program will help parents better prepare their child for success in kindergarten:

  • Playing, reading and talking with your child are important teaching tools
  • Parents are their child's first and most influential teacher
  • Parent involvement can make a huge impact on how well your child does in school

Participants learn techniques to help their child develop these skills:

  • Academic
  • Social 
  • Emotional
  • Motor
  • Language

Research on the Gearing Up for Kindergarten program suggests:

  • Parent-school relationship is enhanced through participation in the program.
  • Children and parents who are prepared and know what to expect in school tend to experience less anxiety and greater enjoyment when entering school. 
  • Skills/Development (compared to children who did not participate in Program)
    1. Social skill development - 3 x higher
    2. Emotional skill development - 2 x higher
    3. Familiarity with numbers - 4 x higher
    4. Familiarity with the alphabet - 2 1/2 x higher

Entering kindergarten is a major transition in the life of a child and his or her parents.
