2018 NDSU Feedlot School

Feedlot School

The Annual NDSU Feedlot School will be held January 23-24, 2018, at the Carrington Research Extension Center, 3.5 miles north of Carrington on US Highway 281. January 23rd the day starts at 9:00 a.m. and will continue into the evening with the last program scheduled for 7:15 p.m. January 24th will begin at 8:00 a.m.

This intensive course is for cattle producers, feeders, backgrounders, feed industry personnel, animal health-care suppliers and anyone else who is interested in learning more about feedlot production, nutrition, waste management and marketing.

Feedlot school topics will include animal nutritional requirements; feed additives and growth promoter technologies; ration formulation; feed nutrient analysis and feed testing; livestock stewardship and beef quality assurance; facility management; disease diagnosis, treatments and health programs; manure and nutrient management; bunk reading and feed delivery; carcass quality and marketing on the grid; using market information for strategic planning; budgeting. The school will also include a commercial feedlot tour and a tour of the Research Extension Center livestock facilities.

Instructors include faculty from NDSU's Animal Science Department, the Carrington and North Central Research Extension Centers, as well as others who have extensive experience in working with Northern Plains feedlots.

Registration fee is $150 per person or $200 for two people from the same operation. A Feedlot School information binder is included with the registration, along with meals.

The deadline to register is January 18, 2018. The fee does not include lodging. Participants must make their own lodging arrangements. Lodging is available at the Chieftain Conference Center, 701-652-3131, or the Carrington Inn and Suites, 701-652-3982, and Cobblestone Inn & Suites - 701-650-3000.
