This healthy recipe comes from NDSU Extension Service.


2 #10 cans, low sodium tomato sauce

2 T. garlic powder

2 T. onion powder

1/3 C. oregano

1/3 C. dried basil

1/3 C. dried parsley

7 ½ C. browned ground beef (3 lbs. raw)

6 C. lentils (cook to package directions)


Stir all ingredients in a saucepan and simmer for 30 minutes.  Serve over spaghetti or your choice of pasta. Sprinkle with parmesan cheese.

Makes 48 servings.

Each serving has 140 calories, 3 grams (g) fat, 13 g protein, 15 g carbohydrate, 4 g fiber and 45 milligrams (mg) sodium.
