Venison or Beef Hash

This healthy recipe comes from NDSU Extension Service.


  • 1½ lb. ground venison or beef
  • 2 large onions, diced
  • 1½ large green peppers, diced
  • 1 (16-oz.) can tomatoes
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1/3 tsp. chili powder
  • ½ c. chopped chilies (optional)


Preheat oven to 350 F. In large skillet, cook and stir meat, onion and peppers until the meat is brown and the veggies are tender. Drain fat. Add tomatoes, salt, chili powder and chilies. Stir well. Place in casserole dish. Cover, then bake for one hour. Stir a few times during cooking for even heating.

Makes 6 servings.

Per serving: 250 calories, 4 grams (g) fat, 12 g carbohydrate and 965 mg sodium.
