Split Pea or Lentil Soup

This healthy recipe comes from NDSU Extension Service.


  • ½ c. uncooked lentils or split peas
  • 1 small onion, sliced thin
  • 1 small stalk celery, chopped
  • ¼ c. tomato sauce
  • 2 c. water
  • Salt, pepper (to taste)


Wash the lentils or peas. Put all ingredients in a kettle. Heat to boiling, cover and simmer for 30 minutes or until lentils or peas are tender. Makes 2 cups

Makes two servings.

Per serving: 199 calories, 0.7 grams (g) fat and 6.4 g fiber.
