Get Fit this Winter
Eating more healthfully and getting more exercise is a great family goal. Keep nutrient-rich choices for snacks and beverages that are ready to grab and go. For example, keep containers of cut vegetables and fruit in the refrigerator. Instead of chips, try plain popcorn or add just a bit of butter if desired. For a sweet, crunchy treat, slice some apples and sprinkle with cinnamon. Make infused water by adding berries or citrus slices to a pitcher of water in the refrigerator.
To keep everyone active during cold weather, introduce video games involving dance or other movement. Have your kids be the fitness coaches for the family. Encourage everyone to bundle up and go outside, or go to an open gym or mall to go on walks. Many secondhand sporting goods stores sell skis, snowshoes and skates at a reasonable cost, too.
