Building a Sandbag Dike

A sandbag dike could fail if it’s not built the right way.

The dike should be three times as wide at the base as it will be tall. Also, bags should be filled about half full and left untied.

To learn more about filling and placing bags and how high to build a dike, contact your county’s North Dakota State University Extension Service office or visit NDSU’s flood website at www.ag.ndsu.edu/flood.
