Make Sure Water Is Safe
Listen for announcements about the local water supply. City water users will be notified if their water supply is contaminated.
- If you have a private well and floodwaters came within 50 feet of the well or it was under water, assume your water supply is unsafe.
- Contact your local health department for detailed instruction on disinfecting and testing your well.
- Learn about Drinking Water Quality: Testing and Interpreting Your Results at http://www.ag.ndsu.edu/pubs/h2oqual/watsys/wq1341.pdf.
- See a video on Chlorinating a Well and Water System at http://waterquality.montana.edu/docs/includes/player.html?movieName=8.
- Use bottled water or purify all water before drinking, preparing food, brushing teeth or washing dishes unless you are absolutely certain your water supply has not been contaminated
