Fresh From the Farmers Market

Paige Halsted, Dietetic Intern,* Concordia College

Have you been to the local farmers market this season? Most farmers markets start wrapping up in October. Get out and enjoy the local fall produce while you still can!

The farmers markets offer fresh, local produce at an affordable price. When you buy these products you are also supporting your local economy and farmers in your area. Your money will be staying in your community and going to support the local farmers that grow your food.

Another great thing about buying your fruits and vegetables from the farmers market is that you can speak directly to the farmer about where your food came from. If you are interested, you can talk to the farmer about their methods, what’s in season, and about the different varieties of your favorite produce.

Farmers markets offer the freshest food. Fruits and vegetables from the community don’t have to be shipped across the country which means they were most likely picked in the past few days. Choose top quality produce that is in season, perfectly ripe, and delicious!

The farmers market is a great activity for the entire family. You can connect with friends in the community, enjoy the great outdoors, and stock up on fresh fruits and vegetables.
