Kudos to staff (7/6/2012)

I’ve received notice about several awards for which Extension staff members have been selected. Please join me in applauding these colleagues:

Roger Ashley, Area Extension Specialist/Cropping Systems, Dickinson REC – The Manitoba-North Dakota Zero Tillage Farmers Association presented Roger with the U.S. Zero Till Nonfarmer of the Year Award on Jan. 10.  Each year ManDak recognizes one Canadian and one U.S. citizen for “outstanding contribution” to the Association. Two producers also are recognized, and this year, Kevin Larson, farmer from Willow City, North Dakota  was the U.S. award recipient.

Linda Kuster, Nutrition Education Assistant/FNP, Grand Forks County – Linda received an NDSU Staff Recognition Award in the technical/paraprofessional category on April 10, 2012 for “extraordinary contributions she makes in her position.”   The awards, coordinated through the Office of Human Resources and NDSU Staff Senate, are presented annually to broad-banded staff of North Dakota State University.

Sue Isbell, Extension Agent/4-H Youth Development, Sioux County – Sue was a honored by NDSU’s Division of Equity, Diversity and Global Outreach with the Green and Golden Globe Diversity Award on April 16 for “going above and beyond her job description to promote diversity.”

Brad Cogdill, Chair, Center for 4-H Youth Development and District Director, Cass and Richland counties – Brad has been selected by Epsilon Sigma Phi to receive the national Administrative Leadership Award. The award will be given at the national meeting at Mobile, Alabama this October.

Lori Scharmer, Extension Agent/Family and Consumer Sciences, Ward County; Ken Hellevang, Agricultural Engineer, Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering; and Debb Pankow, Family Economics Specialist, Human Development and Family Science  – Lori, Ken and Debb also have been chosen for a national award by Epsilon Sigma Phi.  They are receiving the Team Recognition award for Flooding Preparation and Recovery Education and Assistance.

Bob Bertsch, Web Technology Specialist; Becky Koch, Director; and Bruce Sundeen, Electronic Media Specialist – all Agriculture Communication – Bob, Becky and Bruce were honored June 11-14 at the Association for Communication Excellence international meeting in Annapolis, Maryland. Bob received the Pioneer Award for the North Central Region that recognizes members who demonstrate exceptional leadership and technical skills, and make significant contributions to the association during their first 10 years of membership. He also received a silver  in Technology Education for Twitter Cohort Immersive Learning Experiment in the Critique and Awards contest.  Becky received a gold in Targeted Publications for Livestock and Land Stewardship Ag Mag, including Outstanding Professional Skill Award for Diversity category. She also received a bronze in Educational Project/Non-credit for Family Preparedness Course for Extension Disaster Education Network. Bob and Becky  tied for the gold in Best Innovative Use of New Technology for Smartphone Applications for Disaster Education. Bruce got a silver in Informational or Non-credit Educational Video Production for Eat Smart. Play Hard. Thundar’s New Game Plan Video.
