Minutes from the October 22, 2013 ESP meeting

Holiday Inn, Fargo

The meeting was called to order by President Rick Schmidt at 11:53 a.m.

Recognition of guests and retirees: Peggy Anderson introduced Duane Hauck. Duane shared information about his retirement. He is working with the 4-H Foundation on the Washburn 4-H Camp initiative.

Rick Schmidt introduced a new member, Charlie Stoltenow. Karla Monsen and Vanessa Hoines went through the initiation process with Charlie. Rick reported we have 34 members.

Rick Schmidt shared that the following ESP life members have passed away; Dean McBride, Harry Ness, Jack Stewart, and Elmer Vagsness.

Secretary’s report: Motion by Peggy Anderson, seconded by Mohamed Khan to approve minutes of the November 5, 2012 meeting.

Treasurer’s report: Motion by J.W. Schroeder, seconded by Donna Anderson to approve the report.

Scholarships for national conferences – continue to offer this for ESP members.

Ken Hellevang shared the audit report. No additional comments.

Duane Hauck is the new chair of the History and Retirees Committee.

  • 3rd Thursday of the month Extension retirees get together at the Holiday Inn.
  • Duane reported on history of Extension

Rick Schmidt talked about ESP membership and how we need to talk with people about joining ESP.

Vanessa Hoines is now Membership Chair.

Jackie Buckley – Scholarship applications are on the ESP website. Jackie will work with Marie on application for scholarship for ESP members for National Conference.

Peggy -  Awards will be presented during Friday’s Award Luncheon.

  • Rick directed us to the calendar of events on the National ESP website

Lynette Flage is now Chair of Awards Committee.

Old Business:

JCEP Meeting –

  • Brent Young from NDSU has students that will be sitting in on Extension Conference. Welcome them if you see them.
  • Challenges with merit increases in Extension.
  • 2014 is the 100th anniversary of Extension Service.

New Business:

  • Report from Kathy Tweeten about ESP Regional meeting.
    • PILD Conference (April 6-9, 2014) – proposals due November 8th
    • JCEP Leadership Conference – February 11-13, 2014 in Memphis, TN
    • ESP National Conference  - October 6-9, 2014 in Indianapolis, IN
    • Rick Schmidt reported on National ESP and North Central ESP:
      • $8,145 was raised at Galaxy for scholarship endowment.
      • North Central region’s turn for 2nd Vice President position
      • Membership is due January 17th to Marie
      • Scholarship applications due by December 1st. Information in September/October Connection magazine.
      • Extension is 100 years old in 2014 – project for celebrating it.

Rick conducted elections. President elect nominees:  Mohamed Khan and Jan Knodel. Election results: Mohamed Khan is new President Elect.

Mohamed Khan made a motion to have Marie Hvidsten as Secretary/Treasurer by unanimous ballot. Seconded by Willie Huot. Motion carried.

Rick asked new President, Julie Garden-Robinson, to take over the meeting. Julie led the group in the Extension Professional’s Creed.

Willie Huot made a motion to adjourn. Seconded by John Kringler. Motion carried. Adjourned at 12:37 p.m.
