Minutes of the October 28, 1998 ESP Meeting

Annual Meeting of Upsilon  Chapter
Epsilon  Sigma Phi

The annual meeting of Upsilon Chapter, ESP, was held during Extension Conference at the Fargo Holiday Inn.

The meeting was called to order by Chair Linda Narum at 12:30 p.m.  Life members attending were introduced.

Jim Kenward
Ron Anderson
Norbert Dorow
Dexter Johnson
A moment of silence was held to honor deceased colleagues.

The secretary's report from the October 22, 1997 annual meeting was reviewed and approved.  Copies
of the minutes were distributed at the beginning of the meeting.

The treasurer's report was presented up to October 15, 1998.  Copies were distributed at the
beginning of the meeting. The report indicated income over expenses of
$551.61. End of the year balance was $493.72 and $7,531.39 plus $444.35 interest on the 4-H
foundation account. It was moved, seconded and approved.

New ESP members initiation was held following the ceremony in the handbook.  One new member was
inducted-  Terry Gregoire.

The new member initiation was conducted by Annalist Sharon Kickertz-Gerbig and Linda Narum.  The
new member was presented with a framed membership certificate, an ESP creed, a membership card, and
ESP information.

Committee Reports:
Audit- John Kringler and Duane Hauck reviewed treasurers book and approved. Recognition - Dale
Siebert - no report but will complete in winter.
Membership - Connie Weed - 40 members have paid membership for 1999. History- looking for a
chairman.
Scholarship - Jackie Buckley - looking for scholarship proposals by November 20th. Other members are Ellen Dunlop, Rita Ussatis and Clint Gienger.

North Central Regional Workshop Report- Art Lamey. This workshop was held in St. Louis.  Art
announced two upcoming meetings. They are:
National ESP Meeting-  Atlanta, December 9-12, 1998.
1999 National ESP Meeting - Indianapolis, December 2-4, 1999.

Young extension professionals need to understand the importance of the organization.
Building support for extension education through our work and assessing the work we do.

Election of officer change.  Bylaws need to be changed by a 2/3's majority.  Discussion was held
regarding a change of the chapter presidency to a 2 year term.  It was moved by Jackie Buckley and
seconded by Verona Lechler to change the presidency to a 2 year term.  It was approved by a
unanimous vote.

Dave Rice mentioned the ESP webpage is available.


New Business
Satellite  Conference- Becky Koch.   On December 10, 1998, a continuing educational conference 
from Georgia with Charlotte Roberts will be presented.  It is titled "Building a Learning Organization  for the 20th Century." 
Cost is $175.00.  It was decided to get a copy.

National Association of Extension 4-H Agents will be hosted by ND in 2001.  They are looking for
contributions  to help cover conference costs.

Duane Berglund and Geri Bosch are to have executive committee study and make recommendations on
contribution.  They will report at next meeting. Approved.

Verona Lechler and Duane Hauck moved and seconded the new slate of officers. Approved. Linda Narum
relinquishes the presidency to Art Lamey.
