Minutes from the November 15, 2012 ESP meeting

Epsilon Sigma Phi Upsilon Chapter
November 5, 2012

Holiday Inn, Fargo

The meeting was called to order by President Andrew Thostenson at 12:09 p.m.

Secretary’s Report: Motion by Peggy Anderson, seconded by Jackie Buckley to approve minutes of the November 1, 2011 meeting.

Treasurer’s Report: Motion by Brad Brummond, seconded by Donna Anderson to approve the report. Yearly audit was shared. Marie thanked Ken Hellevang for his help in reviewing the accounts.

No new members to induct at this time.

Nominations for officers:

Nominations from floor for President Elect: Julie Garden Robinson and Janet Knodel

No nominations for Secretary/Treasurer and Annalist

Committee Reports:

History – no report

Membership – Rick Schmidt reported that we currently have 31 members. Discussion was had about why someone should be in ESP. We have materials from National ESP for recruiting. North Dakota ESP Chapter bylaws and constitution will be updated on the website. Rick shared that the next National ESP Conference was in Mobile, Alabama. Marie shared letter from National ESP thanking the ND Chapter for their auction contribution at the National ESP Conference.

Scholarship – Jackie Buckley reported on the Bearfield-Bale Scholarship – we can change the scholarship requirements to anyone going back to school and they don’t need to be away from work. 4-H Foundation handles this scholarship. Arlyn Staroba/Bob Hughes Scholarship funds are handled by the NDSU Development Fund.

Awards – Peggy Anderson shared that many North Dakota names are in National ESP Awards. February 1st is the deadline for award applications. Applications are done online. Peggy shared information about other scholarships from National ESP. Kathy and Peggy will nominate people – let them know if you have someone you feel should be nominated for an award.

Kathy Tweeten shared information about the upcoming Galaxy Conference September 16-20, 2013 in Pittsburgh, PA. PILD is April 21-24, 2013. North Central VP for ESP is Graham Cochran from Ohio. He is taking over for Kathy. New president of ESP comes from Kentucky. National ESP is having a discussion about 2nd Vice President role and if it is needed. No motion from ND group regarding 2nd VP role – leave as is.

Roger thanked the nominating committee members for their work. Julie Garden Robinson is the new president-elect.

Incoming ND ESP President Rick Schmidt ended the meeting with the Extension Professionals Creed.

President Thostenson adjourned the meeting at 12:36 p.m.
