Minutes of the Annual Meeting of Upsilon Chapter
Epsilon Sigma Phi
March 21, 2002


The annual meeting of Upsilon Chapter, ESP was held during Extension Conference at the Doublewood Inn, Fargo on March 21,200.

The meeting was called to order by Chair Clint Gienger at 11:48 AM. The Extension Professionals Creed was recited.
Life members in attendance were introduced. They were: Wayne Hankel, Ron Anderson, Dexter Johnson, Pat Beck, Darnell Lundstrom and Wayne Colberg.
Art Lamey is the newest life member but was not in attendance.

The secretary's report for the April 5,  2001meeting was distributed prior to the meeting and approved.

The treasurer's report was presented including transactions from April 1, 2001 through March 15,
2002. Copies were distributed at the beginning  ofthe  meeting. The report indicated income over
expenses of $17.40. The income for the year was $3571.32 with expenses of$3553.92. The end of the
year bank balance was 2835.23. The 4-H Foundation account of $7531.39 provided interest of $399.16.
The report was approved.

New member initiation was held and conducted  by Dave Rice and Clint Gienger. New members are:
Barb Holes-Dickson,  Andrew Thostenson,  Greg Endres and Jan Knodel

Committee Reports:
Audit
: John Kringler and Duane Hauck reviewed the  treasurer's book and approved it.
Recognition: Dale Siebert- Awards are to be presented on Friday at the luncheon.
Membership: Peggy Anderson- Reported on membership numbers.
History: Gary Moran- Archives are being organized and updated (1920 to 1985). Need to fill in records from 1985 to present.
Scholarship: Jackie Buckley- Two are being provided at $300 each. Recipients are Linda Hauge and Jan Knodel.
Nominating:  Eugene Elhard-No new officers are being elected. Current officers are:
Clint Gienger- Chair
Kathy Tweeten- Vice- chair
Dave Rice- Annalist
Vern Hofman- Sec./Trea.

New Business:
Kathy Tweeten- Presented a report on her attendance at the JCEP (Joint Council of Extension Professionals) meeting in St. Paul, Mn.
There are about 9000 members nationwide. The 2002 meeting will be held in Oct. in Lexington, Kentucky and the 2003 meeting is to be held in Salt Lake City.
National ESP is changing the word "Fraternity" in Cooperative Extension Fraternity to  read" Cooperative Extension Professional's
Organization". Committee structure of our chapter does not follow the national organization very well. Kathy will chair a committee along with assistance from
Gary Moran and Dean Aakre to realign our committees. They will have a report by the fall meeting.

The 4-H Youth workers sent a thank you for the $1000 gift that was used for the National 4-H Conference held in Bismarck.

Sharon Anderson provided a report on federal retirement. No more schedule A retirement will be provided.

Dr. Bill Pietsch is in rehabilitation and is coming along well. It was moved and seconded to direct the treasurer to send flowers to Bill in and amount up to $50. Approved.

The retirees were asked to provide an update on their activities during the past year.

Meeting was adjourned at 12:50 PM by chair Clint Gienger.

Treasurers Notes:
Bank Balance as of Oct. 15,2002      $2535.42
Includes the interest from the 4-H Foundation CD of  $391.63. This was received in Sept. of 2002 and was deposited in the bank account. The CD principle is $7531.39.

Two scholarships of $300 each have been paid since the last meeting. They were to Linda Hauge and Jan Knodel.
