Volunteer Training for Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies

Bison Strides, the NDSU Department of Animal Sciences Equine Assisted Activities and Therapies program is looking for volunteers to support participants who have physical, cognitive, emotional, behavioral or mental health challenges during their weekly adapted therapeutic horseback riding lessons or hippotherapy sessions at the NDSU Equine Center. No horse experience is needed! Volunteer Training will be held on Tuesday, March 26 from 5:30-7 p.m. at the NDSU Equine Center 5140 19th Ave N., Fargo. A commitment of 1 hour per week is requested (dates, days and times below). Volunteers should be able to walk (and occasionally jog) next to a horse in a sand/dirt arena for an hour. Close toed and heeled shoes are required. Available weekly volunteer times are as follows:

 

Adapted Riding April 2 to May 9

Tuesdays 10-11 a.m.

Thursdays 9-11 a.m.

Thursdays 4-6 p.m.

Hippotherapy (physical or occupational therapy using equine movement) Wed March 27 to May 15

8:30-11:30 a.m.
