Bison Strides

Welcome to Bison Strides...partnering horses and humans for good!

Operating under the direction of the Equine Science Program in the NDSU Department of Animal Sciences, Bison Strides embodies the mission of a land-grant institution:

Teaching: Bison Strides provides experiential teaching and learning opportunities for undergraduate students

Outreach: Bison Strides serves the citizens of ND by providing exceptional equine assisted activities and therapies programming

Research: Bison Strides conducts research on the outcomes and benefits of partnering horses and humans

Bison Strides is accredited by the Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International (PATH Intl.) and is currently the only PATH Intl. Premier Accredited Center in the state of North Dakota. Just 31% of the 880 PATH Intl. centers have earned this status. Bison Strides offers spring, summer and fall sessions for individuals with physical, cognitive, emotional, behavioral or mental health challenges at the NDSU Equine Center, 5140 19th Ave N, Fargo.


ADAPTED THERAPEUTIC RIDING

This equine assisted activity is designed to teach participants horsemanship skills. Documented benefits include improved social skills, balance and posture, as well as greater self-confidence and increased self-awareness. Participants must be at least 5 years old and have no contraindications for horseback riding. Individuals must also have a physician’s release and be evaluated by the EAAT director prior to participating in the program.

FALL 2018

Cost: $240 for the 6-week session

Registration deadline: August 20, 2018

  • FALL I     -     Dates:  September 10 to October 16, 2018
  • FALL II     -     Dates: October 22 to November 27, 2018

PHYSICAL OR OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY

In partnership with Bison Strides, Beyond Boundaries Therapy Services offers physical and occupational therapy using equine movement (also known as hippotherapy). Clients must be at least 2 years old and have no contraindications for mounted equine movement. Individuals interested in hippotherapy should contact Beyond Boundaries directly at 701-356-0062.
