Summary

  • Winter storm system passing NW-SE through the state today and tonight. From 2 to 5 inches along the band, highest amounts along and south of I-94 corridor. Seasonably cool, snowy and a bit windy to end the week.
  •  Second system comes in Sunday and Monday, with higher potential for heavier snow, 6 inch plus amounts more likely across southern half of state. Strong gusting winds with blowing and drifting possible Sunday and Monday. 
    •      Good news: Wildfire Risk is now lower, as cooler temps and snow cover return. 
    •      Bad news: Newborn Livestock at risk, check out CANL -  Cold Advisory for Newborn Livestock 
  • For now: the Drought Monitor map valid on March 19th, published March 21th, has no change to the ND map. Persistent area of D1 to D2 in northeast ND, with widespread D0 elsewhere. This should all change over the next two weeks!
  • Overall, near to above normal temperatures are expected to return in early April and beyond, while precipitation remains fickle.
