Frank began his duties at the Dickinson Research Extension Center in July, 2005. His primary responsibility is acting as the coordinator for the Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education program in North and South Dakota . This includes project management, promotion of a wider discussion of sustainability in the Dakotas , dissemination of information about sustainable agriculture, programming for extension educators, promoting SARE grant programs for students, farmers/ranchers, and extension professionals, and receiving comments on these issues from all interested parties. Frank will also assist Kris Ringwall in the management of the DREC.

Frank received a Ph.D. in Plant Breeding from Cornell University (2005), a M.S. in Animal Ecology from Iowa State University (1988), and a B.S. in Biology from the University of Wisconsin at Whitewater (1984). Prior to coming to Dickinson, Frank worked at the Natural Resources Research Institute in Duluth, Minnesota where he assisted several aquatic and forest ecologists. Frank had a wildflower seed and transplant business and worked on several SARE research and demonstration projects on his farm in Minnesota . He has also worked with farmers on small grain and corn breeding projects across the country.
