Beef Cattle and Forage Day

Beef Cattle and Forage Day will be held August 24, 2016 at the Dickinson Research and Extension Center Manning Ranch Headquarters located 22 miles north and 3 miles west of Dickinson, ND or 2 miles south and 3 miles west of Manning, ND. A sign marks the turnoff from Highway 22.  The program will begin at 1:30 PM and conclude by 4:00 PM.

PROGRAM SCHEDULE

1:30 PM-1:35 PM Welcome, Dr. Kris Ringwall, DREC Director

1:35 PM-2:00 PM Integrating crops and livestock: Effect on fertilizer, spring wheat yield and net return. Doug Landblom, DREC Beef Cattle Specialist  

2:00 PM-2:30 PM Building soil organic matter for increased nutrient cycling and crop production. Dr. Larry Cihacek, Soil Scientist, NDSU Soil Science Department

2:30 PM-3:15 PM  Building crop and livestock diversity with cover crops and beef cattle grazing.  Fara Brummer, CGREC Area Extension Livestock Specialist  Ryan Buetow, DREC Area Extension Agronomist  Doug Landblom, DREC Beef Cattle Specialist

3:15 PM-3:30 PM Yearling steers developed with an integrated annual forage grazing system; net profit in a declining cattle market.  Dr. Songul Senturklu, Turkish Visiting Animal Scientist.

3:30 PM-4:00 PM Building the Future: New research focuses on environmental effects of integrated crop and livestock systems, producer extended grazing systems and forage-finished beef.  Fara Brummer, CGREC Area Extension Livestock Specialist and Doug Landblom, DREC Beef Cattle Specialist.
