Southwest ND (08/13/15)

Information from the Southwest region of North Dakota

Areas in the region received precipitation last week however rains have been variable and spotty. NDAWN recorded 0.23 inches of rain in the past week in Dickinson, while in Mott 1.38 inches were recorded. Corn, soybean, and sunflower fields in the region are in need of moisture. Harvest is in full swing with most winter wheat and barley being harvested and spring wheat is close behind. Yields are looking good, however some fields are having problems with scab and DON (vomitoxin). Grain storage is a concern in areas with bins full from last year’s harvest. Canola fields in the region are beginning to be swathed and harvested, maturity in many fields is variable and wind damage has laid down plants and shattered some pods.
