Southwest ND (07/18/19)

Information from the Southwest region of North Dakota.

Many are busy cutting hay but scattered showers throughout the region has made that difficult for some. According to NDAWN, from July 1st to July 15th Dickinson received 1.16 inch of rain, Bowman with 1.75 inch, Hettinger with 1 inch, and Mott with 4.39 inches. With many small grains heading out and flowering along with moist conditions, there is concern for disease in some areas. Be sure to make timely applications. Some have reported high numbers of aphids in wheat. Page 103 of the ND Field Crop Insect Management Guide shows that significant numbers of aphids in wheat after onset of flowering does not reduce yield.
