Southwest ND (06/18/15)

Information from the Southwest region of North Dakota

In the past week (June 10-16) rainfall in the region has been variable with areas receiving high amounts of rainfall, others not enough, and some just right. NDAWN indicates that rainfall varied from 0.45-2.91” in Dickinson and Hettinger, respectively. Small grains are all over the board in development and some field peas are beginning to flower. Sunflower growth stage ranges from still in the ground to 4 leaves. Crops appear relatively well with a few fields of alfalfa being cut over the weekend, but most waiting for a dry forecast to make hay. Alfalfa weevil populations are high in parts of the region with Bowman County reporting that economic thresholds have been reached in some fields.
