Northwest ND (05/24/18)

Information from the Northwest region of North Dakota.

Most farmers are wrapping up planting in NW ND and are switching gears to early-season weed control and fertilizer applications, if they weren’t able to get them done prior to planting. A little rain 0.1-0.2” fell across the area last Thursday and there was warm weather over the weekend. The best chance for rain is on Wednesday, May 23rd with scattered afternoon and evening thunderstorms predicted. Crops will need rain to germinate and get started as there is almost no moisture in the top few inches of soil across most of the region. Rain would be helpful before Memorial Day weekend when temperatures are predicted to reach 90 degrees. Crops planted in late April and the first week of May are emerging, however development is slow in the dry conditions.
