North Central ND (06/18/20)

Information from the North Central region of North Dakota

Weekend rainfall seemed to be confined to the northwestern part of the state with smaller amounts noted in the north central region. Observed reports of precipitation throughout the area were as follows (week starting June 7th): Minot: 0.06” (NCREC: trace); Bottineau: 0.23”; Garrison: 0.01”; Karlsruhe: 0.16”; Mohall: 0.11”; Plaza: 0.02”; and Rugby: 0.07”. Bare soil temperatures at the NCREC was observed at 76F as of June 15th.

Spring wheat is tillering with winter wheat headed out. Soybean is in the V1 to V2 stage with field pea in the V5 to V6 vegetative stages. Canola is observed between the V2-V4 stage. Now is the time for controlling weeds, as weather permits. Some hit and miss grasshoppers are being found during scouting, though very low numbers. Flea beetle populations are still be detected, but adult numbers appear to be dropping.
