Fusarium Head Blight (Scab) Risk for Late-seeded Small Grains

Several late-seeded spring wheat fields in ND will be approaching flowering soon. Make sure to scout those fields for relative growth stage and use the scab risk models to help in the fungicide decision process. Frequent rain and prolonged periods of high humidity over the past week have elevated scab risk for both susceptible (Figures 1 and 2) and moderately susceptible (Figures 3 and 4) spring wheat and durum varieties. High scab risk exists in the northern third of the state and moderate scab risk exists for a large area in the eastern half of the state. Scab risk is likely to remain moderate to high as more rain and high humidity is projected to occur over the next week.
