Sunflower Insect Trap Update (07/23/20)

Banded sunflower moth (BSM) and Arthuri sunflower moth (ASM) trap catches increased significantly this past week.

Banded sunflower moth (BSM) and Arthuri sunflower moth (ASM) trap catches increased significantly this past week. There were 178 BSM per trap per week near Harwood in Cass County, 109 near Carrington REC in Foster County and 78 near Lefor in Hettinger County. Arthuri sunflower moth traps were high at Harwood and Langdon. For sunflower moth, only one trap site increased and captured 11 moths per trap per week, north of Dickinson in Dunn County. The southwest sunflower production area, we probably need to SCOUT for sunflower moths when flowering, since traps are getting close to the E.T. of 28 sunflower moths per trap per week.
