Pea Leaf Weevil Found in North Central Region

Pea leaf weevil larvae were collected from a pea field located northwest of Plaza last week. Of the twenty plants in the sample, two plants had pea leaf weevil larvae (one larva on each plant); however, nodule damage was observed on another five plants. Nodule damage was very minor, as was the leaf notching, <1% incidence in the North Central area. Pea leaf weevil is possibly present throughout the Ward/Mountrail pea-producing areas, but at very low levels that would not cause yield loss. Sampling for adults just prior to or immediately after harvest will help us to better document how widespread pea leaf weevil is in North Dakota.

See last week’s issue of Crop & Pest Report for more information about pea leaf weevil.
