Foundation and Enhanced Level

The Cooperative Leadership Training Program provides three levels of education for cooperative board of directors and management.  The three levels are designed to build on the knowledge gained in the previous program. Specific program topics for each level may change based upon participant needs and current issues. The Foundation and Enhanced levels are held in February as single day events.

Foundation – The Foundation Level program emphasizes core knowledge and skills required to be an effective leader within a cooperative. The issues covered are neither simple nor basic, but focus on the most important capabilities required to make sound business decisions for the cooperative and its members.

Enhanced – The Enhanced Level program targets issues and/or problems commonly faced by cooperative business leaders.  This level provides more detailed education on specific challenges confronting cooperatives.  Effectively dealing with these issues often moves average performing cooperatives to high performing cooperatives.

Topics will include

  • Fiduciary responsibilities
  • Robert’s Rules of Order
  • Co-op principles
  • Financial management
  • Risk management
  • Roles and responsibilities
  • Capital management
  • Board/CEO gray areas/introduction to strategy
