Burleigh County 4-H Celebrates National 4-H week

Burleigh County 4-H kicked off National 4-H week (Oct. 1-7) with a service project that provided 120 birthday parties in a bag for local charities. The bags, which contain the basics needed to have a birthday party (cake, frosting, a few decorations), were donated to Carrie’s Kids and the Ronald McDonald House to be distributed to families in need.

All of the items were donated by 4-H members and their families. County Kids 4-H club also secured additional funds through the Thrivent Action Team program to purchase additional items.

“It was fun to see members from different clubs come together and work on a common project,” Amelia Doll, Burleigh County 4-H Youth Development Agent said. “One of 4-H’s focus areas is community service,” Doll said “this project allowed youth to have fun while giving back.”

In addition to the birthday party bags, many clubs decorated rocks to hide around the Bismarck/Mandan area with the hashtag, #4Hrocks. Finders of the rocks are encouraged to post a picture of their find to social media with the hashtag and either keep or re-hide the rock.

The goal of 4-H is to develop citizenship, leadership, responsibility, and life skills of youth through experiential learning programs and a positive youth development approach.
