Burleigh County 4-H Assembles Birthday Parties in a Box

On Sunday, November 1, 150 4-H youth and adult leaders came together to assemble birthday parties in a box. The boxes contained items needed to have a birthday party and will be donated to local service organizations.

The boxes contain items such as a cake mix, disposable pan or cupcake liners. All of the items were donated by 4-H members and their families. Country Kids 4-H club also secured additional funds through the Thrivent Action Team program to purchase additional items.

During the holiday season, many people donated to the local food pantry. While any food helps with the need of hunger, not all nurture the whole person. “We thought it was a neat idea,” said Mitzi Johnson 23 year 4-H Leader in Burleigh County. “Our older kids wanted to make sure there was something for teens too,” Johnson said.

Many of the 4-H’ers expressed how fun the project was. “It was fun to see members from different clubs come together and work on a common project,” Amelia Doll, Burleigh County 4-H Youth Development Agent said. “One of 4-H’s focus areas is community service,” Doll said “this project allowed youth to have fun while giving back.”

The goal of 4-H is to develop citizenship, leadership, responsibility, and life skills of youth through experiential learning programs and a positive youth development approach.
