NEW AIM LABEL

A new Aim label was issued a while ago. The new label allows harvest aid/desiccation for crop groups 6 and 7. These crop groups include dry beans, dry field peas and lentils. Aim can legally be used as a dry bean desiccant/harvest aid. The label shows a zero (0) PHI for crop groups 6 and 7 for this application and the maximum use rate per season is 6.1 oz/A. This is flexible for dry bean producers as they can apply Aim at a high rate or multiple times and still stay under the maximum 6.1 oz/A allowed. The zero day PHI allows for flexible also.

NDSU data show limited efficacy for Aim used as a dry bean desiccant. However, low rates were used. Greater activity may occur with higher rates but they have not been tested. FMC will be doing large field demo plots to educate growers on expectations. This season will be an early launch demo for this use. FMC may suggest use at 2 oz/A + 1 qt/A MSO at 20 GPA.

WEED CONTROL IN SORGHUM

We occasionally get requests for herbicide recommendations for weed control in sorghum. In addition to looking at each specific label, SDSU produces a weed control guide for sorghum called, "Weed Control in Sorghum: 2005, FS 525D. Contact the SDSU Extension Service for a copy.

According to the bulletin, POST products labeled for use in both grain and forage sorghum are atrazine, 2,4-D, bromoxynil, and Paramount. Those products labeled only for grain sorghum are Aim, dicamba, Basagran, Permit, and Peak.
