SPRING WHEAT INTRASTATE NURSERY

26 varieties or strains - quadruplicate single rows grown at three N. Dakota Stations - Fargo, Langdon and Dickinson.

Yields in the Dickinson trial ranged from a high of 15.2 bushels per acre from N. No. 2047 to a low of 6.5 bushels per acre from Key No. 7, Dr. L.R. Waldon's No. 1.10.10.3. Four of the five entries from the Dickinson Station were high yielders in the 1952 trials ranking second, third, fourth and fifth. Dickinson No. 284 averaged 14.3 bushels per acre, Dickinson 111 averaged 13.5 bushels per acre, N. No. 2348, from the cross Pilot x Premier, produced 13.4 bushels per acre and Dickinson No. 249 averaged 12.6 bushels per acre. The variety Lee, included as a check in this nursery, ranked fourteenth for yield with an average 8.7 bushels per acre. Test weights were good in this trial also, ranging from a low of 58.0 to a high of 61.0 pounds per bushel.

Seven of the entries in this years Intrastate Nursery were free from leaf rust, all being selections from Dr. L.R. Waldon's breeding. None of the high yielding Dickinson selections were free from leaf rust.

None of the entries in this years Intrastate Nursery were free from black stem rust although there was considerable difference in the amount of infection between strains in this trial

Data from the Dickinson trial are presented in table 34.

Three station yields and the averages for the three stations are summarized in table 35. Four out of five Dickinson entries, Key Numbers 21 through 25, ranked among the top five for yield in the three station average.
