The 2019 Agronomy Seed Farm Field Day is Monday, July 15, at 5 p.m.

Precision agriculture, crop diseases and weed management are among the topics for the annual field tour July 15 at North Dakota State University’s Agronomy Seed Farm.

The tour starts at 5 p.m. The Agronomy Seed Farm is one mile south and one mile west of Casselton, North Dakota.

“NDSU research and Extension specialists will be on hand to discuss current problems and answer any questions producers may have,” says Brian Otteson, farm director.

Tour topics and speakers include:

  • Precision weed management using imagery to identify weeds, with unmanned aerial vehicle demonstrations - John Nowatzki, NDSU Extension agricultural machine systems specialist
  • Small-grain disease review and discussion of the management of Goss’ wilt in corn - Andrew Friskop, NDSU Extension small-grains plant pathologist
  • Soybean varieties - Ted Helms, NDSU soybean breeder
  • Insecticide update for soybean aphid control and insecticide resistance issues with soybean aphid and corn rootworm - Jan Knodel, NDSU Extension entomologist
  • 2019 summer weed science update, including current weed management issues and a Palmer amaranth update - Kirk Howatt, associate professor, NDSU Plant Sciences Department, and Joseph Ikley, NDSU Extension weed specialist
  • Update on winter wheat varieties and fungicide trial results - Joel Ransom, NDSU Extension small-grains agronomist
  • Spring wheat variety update and preliminary data on the historical variety yield trial - Andrew Green, NDSU spring wheat breeder

Following the field tour, a meal will be served at the farm by NDSU’s Carnivore Catering.
