2021 Variety Release Information

ND FROHBERG

ND Frohberg is a hard-red spring wheat variety developed by North Dakota State University Spring Wheat Breeding Program and approved for release by the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station. ND Frohberg is a wheat variety with good yield potential, strong end-use quality and very good disease resistance. The pedigree of the line is (ND709-9/ND2902). ND709-9 was an experimental line with the pedigree (ND 2709/3/GRANDIN*3//RAMSEY/ND 622). ND2902 was an experimental line with the pedigree (ND674//ND2710/ND688). The line was both crossed and derived by Dr. Richard Frohberg. It is medium-tall, similar to Barlow with straw strength most similar to Glenn. ND Frohberg carries the leaf rust gene Lr34 and has shown moderate resistance in adult plants. It has also shown high levels of resistance to bacterial leaf streak. The Fusarium head blight resistance is Sumai-3 derived, with resistance similar to Elgin-ND and Barlow. It has shown strong milling and baking quality during its testing, with mixograph scores similar to Glenn. In drill strip plots in 2018, its Farinograph stability was most similar to Glenn and Farinograph absorption most similar to Barlow. It has been yield tested in over 60 environments in the past four years, and has had a yield similar to SY Ingmar in western locations, and similar to Barlow in eastern locations.

ND21008GT20

ND21008GT20 is a soybean variety developed by North Dakota State University Soybean Breeding Program and approved for release by the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station.

Tested as (ND14-6120), ND21008GT20 a 00.8 maturity glyphosate tolerant (GT) soybean with a good yield potential similar to ‘ND17009GT’, but has an improved tolerance to IDC with a score of 1.8. ND21008GT20 has competitive yield package similar to many company RR2 types. ND21008GT20 is resistant to Race 4 of phytophthora root rot. It should be noted that ND21008GT20 is susceptible to Soybean Cyst Nematode. The pedigree of ND21008GT20 is ‘Dual x RG607RR’. ND21008GT20 has purple flower color, tawny pubescence, brown pod with gray hila and dull seed coat luster. ND21008GT20 is a genetically modified organism with an off patent RR1 gene.

ND2108GT73

ND2108GT73 is a soybean variety developed by North Dakota State University Soybean Breeding Program and approved for release by the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station.

Tested as (ND15-22873GT), a 0.8 maturity glyphosate (GT) tolerant soybean with high yield potential. ND2108GT73 is the first NDSU GT soybean released that has a maturity suitable for central and southern North Dakota. ND2108GT73 has moderate tolerance to IDC with a score of 2.7 and is resistant to lodging. It should be noted that ND2108GT73 is susceptible to Soybean Cyst Nematode. The pedigree of ND2108GT73 is MN1410 X Sheyenne X (Ashtabula X RG7008RR). ND2108GT73 has a white flower, tawny pubescence, brown pod color, dull seed coat, and yellow hila color.
