Ask Questions

  • How much flaxseed or oil should one consume daily?

The American Heart Association recommends 1 teaspoon (5g) of flaxseed oil or 1 tablespoon (8g) of milled flax provides enough ALA to meet dietary needs.

  • How should flax be stored?

Flaxseed can be stored at room temperature for up to a year if it is clean, dry and of good quality. Grind flax as needed to ensure it stays fresh. Milled flaxseed can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 30 days in an airtight, opaque container.

  • Can it be used as a cooking oil?

Flax oil should not be used for cooking. It is degraded by light, heat and air.

  • I really like the nutrition facts label but, it does not include polyunsaturated & monounsaturated fats. How much monounsaturated fat is in flax?

    1 Tbsp. flaxseed oil contains:
    120 calories
    13.6g fat
    1.28g saturated fat
    2.75g monounsaturated fat
    9g polyunsaturated fat

  • What are lignins and why are they beneficial?

Lignans are phytoestrogens. Phytoestrogens are compounds that have been shown in laboratory studies of animals to help protect against certain kinds of cancer, mainly breast and colon cancers, by blocking tumor formation.
