Research Abstract

Working Title: “Modeling the demand for a new biomass pellet with financial risk.” Renewable and sustainable energy resources face fierce competitive energy markets dominated by fossil fuels. Developing new woody and agricultural biomass fuel pellets can help aid in reducing foreign energy dependence and greenhouse gas emissions. Given a developed energy market with low profit margins, financial risk is certainly a threat for any new competitive product. This research uses a Tobit model to analyze US woody fuel demand, with an emphasis on pellet fuels and the possible market outcomes. This research also analyzes the financial risk involved with stochastic variables for the production and demand of products.
