Ryan Larsen submits grant

Larsen, Ryan
Dr. Ryan Larsen, Assistant Professor in the department of Agribusiness and Applied Economics, has submitted a grant proposal in the amount of $10,000 to Northern Plains Potato Growers Association.

The title of this proposal is:
“Agronomic and Economic Effect of Bed Planted Potatoes”

The purpose of this project is to examine the effect of bed-planting Dark Red Norland and Dakota Pearl on stand, graded yield, and the economic feasibility of production.

Bed planting of potatoes has been practiced in Europe for a number of years.  Some of the advantages of bed-planted potatoes are a more uniform yield, more plants per acre, about 10% less nitrogen and water is required, and beds can keep potatoes from freezing longer than ridge tilled potatoes.
