Hodur and Bangsund submit proposal to ND Lignite Council

Dr. Nancy Hodur, Research Assistant Professor and Director of Center for Social Research, North Dakota State University, PI; and Dean Bangsund, Research Scientist, Co-PI, in Agribusiness And Applied Economics at North Dakota State University, have submitted a proposal to ND Lignite Council in the amount of $94, 523.

The title of the proposal is: “Economic Contribution and Workforce Characteristics of the Lignite Energy Industry in North Dakota”.

The first objective will be to estimate the economic contribution of the Lignite Energy Industry to the North Dakota economy and to estimate the economic value of the Lignite Energy Industry’s investment in North Dakota, including mines, generation plants, conversion facilities, substations, Infrastructure and other capital investments.  They will also conduct a comprehensive assessment of the characteristics, intentions and perceptions of the current workforce in the lignite energy industry.  The second objective will estimate the potential economic effects of a contraction in the lignite energy industry.
