Dr. Ripplinger submits grant to the Woodshed Renewable LLC and the ND Industrial Commission

David Ripplinger

Dr. David Ripplinger has submitted a grant proposal in the amount of $231,593 to the Woodshed Renewable LLC and the North Dakota Industrial Commission.

The title of this proposal is: “Application of Agricultural Byproducts for Energy Systems”

Last year the upper Midwest region of the U.S. saw a huge spike in the price of home heating fuels.  The uncertainty in the price of energy can impact both residential and commercial sector growth.  The project will help in identifying selected agricultural byproducts, natural binders and waste wood than can be economically used to manufacture densified biomass energy products in North Dakota.  It will help to increase the efficiency of it’s transportation and competitiveness with low-cost fossil energy.  The characterization of biomass based feedstock’s will help to develop and test unique formulations that can be used for commercial production of pellets and other densified products.
