Dr. Lim awarded grant from National Science Foundation

Dr. Siew Lim

Dr. Siew Hoon Lim, Co-PI and Assistant Professor in Agribusiness and Applied Economics Department, has been notified that the National Science Foundation has awarded a grant in the amount of $249,423 to North Dakota State University.

This project, entitled "CNH-Ex: A Model for Groundwater Allocation and Management at the Bakken Shale in Western North Dakota,"  is under the direction of Dr. Siew Lim and Dr. Zhulu Lin.

The rapid expansion of unconventional oil and gas production in western North Dakota, a region rich in energy but scarce in water, has given birth to a novel water allocation system – water depots, to distribute a large quantity of freshwater for industrial uses in rural areas. This project is a pilot study for the energy-water nexus at the Bakken Shale of western North Dakota, using an interdisciplinary modeling approach to gain a better understanding of the complex interactions between socioeconomic and natural systems surrounding the unprecedented economic and water resources developments in the region.
