Dr. David Ripplinger & Dr. Aaron DeLaporte submit grant proposal to USDA

Dr. David Ripplinger, Assistant Professor in Agribusiness and Applied Economic Department, PI and Dr. Aaron DeLaporte, Research Assistant Professor in Agribusiness and Applied Economic Department, Co-PI, have submitted a grant to USDA, Federal-State Marketing Improvement Program in the amount of $116,409.

The title of this proposal is: “Torrefied Biomass Market Opportunity Assessment”

The demand for torrefied biomass, or bio-coal has been increasing from multiple drivers, including The Clean Power Plan Proposed Rule (Clean Air Act Section 111(d) and bio-product development.

This project aims to answer the following research questions surrounding torrefied biomass:
1)    How large is the market?
2)    How much does bio-coal cost to produce?
3)    Where should bio-coal production occur?
4)    Which agricultural producers will be impacted and by how much?
