Week 4

This Week in the Twitter Cohort

  • We completed our third Reflection & Sharing webinar (view archive). Here's what we did:
    • Talked about the advantages and disadvantages of Twitter re-share methods
    • Learned how to participate in a Twitter conversation using Seesmic and Tweetchat
    • Talked about how to post a Follow Friday message
  • Next participants should
    • Participate in at least on live Twitter chat (directory of Twitter chats)
    • Post Follow Friday tweets promoting Twitter accounts that you recommend others follow. Be sure to include the hashtags #FF and #ndcohort
    • Monitor tweets through Seesmic and participate in the class conversations started by tweets from @ndbob or
      @JulieKuehlNDSU. Responses will include the #ndcohort hashtag.
    • Prepare to talk about your overall experience in the cohort and how you plan to use Twitter in the future.
    • Participate in the final Reflection & Sharing webinar

  • Our second Reflection & Sharing webinar starts at 9 a.m. (CDT) Monday, October 3:
    • Talk about our experiences sharing web content on Twitter
    • Discuss an Extension educator's role as a content curator
    • Learn how to reply, retweet and quote on Twitter
  • Next participants should

Week 2

This Week in the Twitter Cohort

  • Our 2nd webinar has been completed. View the archive.
    • Shared accounts we added to our Twitter network and how we found them
    • Reviewed how to set up a new saved search column in Seesmic
    • Talked about how to share web links in tweets using Seesmic
  • Next participants should
    • Using the strategies outlined in “Promoting Web Content in Twitter,” find at least 3 valuable web resources, shorten the URLs using and post a tweet promoting the resource.
    • Monitor tweets through Seesmic and participate in the class conversations started by tweets from @ndbob or
      @JulieKuehlNDSU. Responses will include the #ndcohort hashtag.
    • Prepare to share the 3 web resources you tweeted about and talk about how you might use Twitter to promote existing web content.
    • Review “Curating With Twitter” materials

Week 1

Twitter Cohort

This 5-week course will immerse participants in using Twitter for building learning networks.

Second Twitter Cohort Has Been Scheduled

In the Twitter Cohort, you will learn by doing.

  • You’ll build a Twitter learning network centered around your interests.
  • You’ll engage in conversations with a Twitter community that starts with your fellow cohort members and reaches across the world.
  • You’ll start online relationships that will last into the future.
  • You’ll begin to see how Twitter can be used for teaching, learning, and connecting.

The 2nd Twitter Cohort begins with the first webinar on Monday, September 19, at 9 a.m. (Central) and continues through the last webinar on Monday, October 17, at 9 a.m. Webinars will also be held on Mondays at 9 a.m.  on Sept. 26, Oct. 3 and 10.

    Please register ONLY if you can attend the webinar on Sept. 19 at 10 a.m. (Central) and at least 3 of the 4 remaining webinars (Mondays at 9 a.m. Central, Sept. 26 – Oct. 10).

    Instructions for Accessing Webinars

    Equipment Needed

    • PC or Mac
    • Headset with microphone – so you can hear through the headset not your
      speakers on the computer.

    Before the Webinar

    If you have never been in a Wimba Classroom (or if it has been a few months) please follow the directions below, a day in advance, and run the setup wizard.  It is on the right side of the login screen.  Simply follow the directions to run the wizard.

    1. To run the wizard or enter the room, please go to: and click on "Participant Login."

                    Room ID: NDSU_Ag  (case sensitive)

                    Name: your name

    2. Once you are logged in you should be sent to the “lobby” where you select "NDSU Ag Web Tech" and you will enter the room.
