SharePoint: Creating and Following Sites

SharePoint is space where you can share documents with NDSU colleagues (not outside people). The documents are in the Microsoft cloud, so you can access them from any computer with Internet access. One person creates a site and shares it with others on the team. All team members then can edit the documents, so it's an easy and secure way to collaborate with colleagues.

To request a SharePoint team site:

If you're the site owner, share the site with team members:

  • Login to Office 365. (This is the same login as webmail.) From www.ndsu.edu, click on Online Services in the gray bar then click on Webmail.Sign in. This almost always is the same login as you use to turn on your computer, but if that doesn’t work, call the help desk at 231-8685.
  • When you sign in, the page defaults to your webmail. Remember, you can use this to get to your email from any computer with Internet access.
  • In the upper left corner, click on the 9-squares icon. This shows you all the products available in your Office 365. “Sites” is your SharePoint sites.
  • Click on Sites, then click on the name of the site you created. Do NOT click on the Public Site and Team Site icons.
In the upper right, click on Share, and type in the names or email of people you want to share this site with. If you type in the name accurately, you can just click on their email, title, etc. that pops up.
  • Send by clicking on the blue Share button.

To access a site, you must "follow" it. To follow a site that's been shared with you:
