Stay up-to-date with the work being done on the NDSU Agriculture Communication purpose, vision and core values.

On August 20, 2012, a small team of volunteers was assembled to review the NDSU Agriculture Communication mission, vision, values, ground rules and departmental name.

The team members are: Bob Bertsch, Ellen Crawford, Monte Kelly and Bruce Sundeen

The work of this team is being performed under certain assumptions:

  • It is possible, despite the differences in the goals and responsibilities of different parts of our department, to formulate a core purpose, vision and core values that can apply to all parts of Ag Communication.
  • The opportunity to review the department mission is a chance to talk seriously and deeply about who we are, why we exist and where we are headed as a department.
  • This is a difficult task. It cannot be completed in one or two meetings. It cannot be completed without a significant investment of time and work from the team members and a willingness among the entire staff to think critically about the work we do and the reasons we do it.
  • Our mission, purpose, vision and core values are not products for our customers, supervisors or administrators. They are for us. They are the things that will join us together as a department, guide us in our decisions and give our work meaning.

The team's plan for developing our purpose, vision and values starts with defining our core values, developing "we statements" that support those values, finding our core purpose and mapping out a vision for our future. Only after that work is completed can we address questions about our department mission and department name.
