Meetings and Public Events

When you conduct a public meeting representing NDSU:

  • Wear your official NDSU nametag.
  • If possible, set up an NDSU Extension Service display. A display would be best localized, but general NDSU Extension Service pull-up banners are available for checkout through Agriculture Communication.
  • Ag Communication also has available a portable sign that fits on the front of a podium. However, each county should have one on hand.
  • If using PowerPoint, use one of the NDSU Extension Service templates.
  • Have a PowerPoint with the NDSU Extension Service logo and program title on the screen as people arrive.
  • Before beginning your program, give a brief “commercial” for the NDSU Extension Service. Include a brief statement of what we do and some of the current and upcoming offerings in your area or the rest of the state. This is an ideal way to tell audiences that we offer other educational programs.
  • Wear appropriate attire. A suggested rule of thumb is to dress one level above your anticipated audience.
  • When introducing other Extension colleagues, provide their name, title and a little bit about their expertise. Log in to the internal staff database for information about them.
  • Collect attendees’ names and addresses or emails to be able to market future programs to them and for possible evaluation later.
  • Send a personalized thank-you note to speakers on letterhead or a notecard.
