Write the Right Word: Everyone/Anyone

Despite common usage, you need to use singular verbs and pronouns with words such as “everyone” and “anyone.”

Everyone means every individual. Anyone means any individual. That’s why these words require singular verbs and pronouns. Do not use plural pronouns such as “they,” “them” and “their” with these words.

For example: “Everyone should increase the amount of fruits and vegetables he or she eats daily.” “Everyone wants to go to the movie theater tonight.”  “Does anyone want this last piece of cake?”
