Agenda

Day 1

1 p.m. – Introductions (Becky & Bob) - team members introduce themselves and share the program they will be working on

1:15 - Understanding Goals & Target Audience (Bob)

  • Setting goals &  Defining your audience
  • Teams finalize their goals for their project and define their target audience.

2:15 p.m. – User Scenarios & Key Messages (Bob)

  • User scenarios & Key Messages
  • Teams identify at least 2 user scenarios.
  • Teams identify 1-3 key messages they will be trying to communicate
  • Teams share their goal, target audience, user scenarios and key messages (15 min)

3:15 p.m. – Break

3:30 p.m.– Writing Tips &  Writing a News Release That Will Get Used (Ellen)

4:30 p.m. – Questions and Prep for Day 2

  • Answer any questions put in the "parking lot" (10 min)

4:40 p.m. – Homework

Day 2

8 a.m. - Reflection time

8:15 a.m. Finding and Using Free Images Legally (Bob – 25 min)

9:00 a.m. – Graphic Design/Writing for the Web

  • Elements of Graphic Design (Kelli - 15 min.)
  • Teams mock up an educational print piece for their project (30 min)

9:45 - Break

10:00 a.m. – Graphic Design/Writing for the Web (cont.)

  • Tips for writing for the Web (Becky – 15 min.)
  • Tips for mobile web design (Sonja - 15 min.)
  • Teams create and post educational web content for their project (30 min.)

11:00 - Shooting High-quality Video and Stills

  • Review material from last night’s homework videos (Scott - 5 min.)
  • What to consider when planning your shoot (Scott - 10 min.)
  • Capturing Smartphone Video (Scott and Bob - 15 mins.)

11:30 a.m. - Lunch is served and teams start to plan their afternoon of shooting video and stills

Noon – Photo/Video Shoot

  • As soon as they are ready, teams go out to capture photos and videos (1 - 3 hrs.). Teams should capture any video they need for their video project AND at least 5 still photos suitable for use in web content, video or social media posts.

Upon Returning (be back by 3 pm) - Editing Video

  • Teams will use Windows Live Movie Maker on Windows 7. Teams will be provided with a laptop for editing, if needed.

4:30 p.m. – Homework (Bob-15 min.)

Day 3

8 a.m. - Questions and Reflection (15 min.)

8:15 a.m. - Final video and other work (45 min.)

9 a.m. – Building Community with Social Media (Bob - 45 min.)

9:45 a.m.Social Media in Practice (45 min.)

10:30 a.m. – Break (15 min)

10:45 a.m.Communication Design Action Plan

  • Work on next steps for action plan
  • Share and discuss action plans

11:15 a.m.Communication Showcase - Teams share the next steps from their action plan, their still photos and their videos. (45 min.)

Noon - Lunch and Feedback - Join us for lunch and share your impressions of Communication Camp
