Communication Camp

NDSU Agriculture Communication’s Communication Camp is a chance for your program team to gain valuable communication skills, better understand communication and education in the digital age, and produce text, images and video that you can use in your educational programs.

This is a three-day intensive camp dealing with a broad range of communication planning and tools.

Participating teams consist of 3 – 5 members. One Ag Comm staff member or past camp participant is assigned to each team as a liaison. Teams are formed around a specific issue or program.

Contact Bob Bertsch, (701) 231-7381, if you're interested in having a Communication Camp team.

If your team puts in the work necessary, you will leave camp with:

  • 1-2 Web content items
  • a draft news release for a topic or event
  • several images for use in online and print content
  • a short video on YouTube and embedded into an Ag CMS web page

Before arriving at Communication Camp, teams must complete the following:

  • Identify which program(s) the team will focus on during camp.
  • Identify which Ag CMS site your team will be working on and confirm your Ag CMS login info
  • Identify a Facebook Page or other social media account you can post to and confirm your access
  • Review creating key messages, defining your audience & user scenarios, and begin working with their liaison in advance of the camp to review key messages and target audience.
  • Think about video and stills to go with messages and capture any video and still photos that your team will not be able to capture at camp.
  • Review tutorials and resources linked on the Communication Camp Agenda.

Liaisons work with their teams to answer questions about these tasks and provide any assistance teams need before the start of camp.

Please bring:

  • Laptop computer with Windows 7 or 8 and Windows Live Movie Maker and Firefox (browser) downloaded, power cords, batteries, etc.
  • Digital still camera with battery charger, download cord, etc.
  • Digital video camera with battery charger, memory cards, download cord, etc.
  • Tripod for video and still cameras
  • Headset with microphone
  • Photos, videos, resource material
  • Other equipment or resources you might want to create educational/communication tools on your topic
  • Your enthusiasm

If you need to borrow any equipment, let your Ag Comm liaison know ASAP.
